Thursday 31 August: Lake District
Keswick is one of the larger towns in the Lake District, allegedly one of the most beautiful parts of England. What we could see of it certainly showed promise, but the haze was so thick that visibility was severely restricted.
Undeterred, we set off for a long walk along Derwentwater, then up to Castlecrag, one of the taller hills near the town. The view would have been spectacular...
By the time we got back to town it was starting to rain, and rained steadily for the rest of the day. So we found the laundrette, did our washing, some reading etc. In the evening we wandered back into town, and had an excellent dinner at the "Lemon and Lime".
